The Adamawa State Government Friday flagged off the distribution of rice palliatives to the most vulnerable persons in the state, with the committee saying it would share 60,000 25kg bags in first phaseÂ
In what was an attempt to ensure non partisanship, fairness and equity, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on August 23 inaugurated a high powered committee with the chief of staff as chairman to recommend measures that will bring cushion the suffering of the people from the subsidy removal by the federal government of Nigeria
At the flag-off of the distribution in Yola, the state capital, the governor said the palliatives are only a show of empathy with the people as more sustainable initiatives like the procurement of high quality fertilizer, procurement of IVM motors to ease transportation are being implemented in phases
The governor said: “ I am delighted to preside over the official flagoff of the distribution of items aimed at mitigating pains resulting from fuel subsidy removal by the federal government of Nigeria . As your governor I have always been sensitive to whatever challenge our people face.Â
He said “almost immediately after the removal of fuel subsidy was announced, I constituted a committee with my chief of staff as chairman to recommend measures that will cushion the effect of that policy on our people. After painstakingly assessing the impact of the policy, the committee recommend measures that have direct impact especially on cost transportation, food items, agriculture imputs”
“We have already started implementing some of the recommendations including the payment of special allowance to our civil servants, and pensioners in the state and local government councils. Procurement and distribution of hundreds trucks of high quality fertilizer for our farmers”
