Oprah Winfrey and Diane von Furstenberg have reaffirmed their support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, emphasizing that choosing any other candidate would be detrimental to women’s reproductive rights.
In an interview, Winfrey highlighted that women’s reproductive rights have become a critical and polarizing issue in the U.S. and stressed that Harris is the only candidate committed to safeguarding these rights. “She [Harris] should be president of the United States for this moment in time, where decency, honor, and respect – particularly for other women, and other women’s bodies and their rights – is on the line,” Winfrey said.
Von Furstenberg, who joined Winfrey in the interview, echoed these sentiments, calling the challenges to women’s rights “unacceptable.”
Reflecting on the progress made by the baby boomer generation, she expressed shock at the current state of affairs. Both Winfrey and von Furstenberg pointed out that abortion rights have become a pivotal issue in the upcoming presidential election.
Harris, like incumbent President Joe Biden, has promised to restore abortion rights at the federal level, a stark contrast to Republican nominee Donald Trump’s stance of leaving the issue to individual states.
Winfrey and von Furstenberg both see Harris’s candidacy as a beacon of hope and a testament to the potential of the American Dream.
