Orlando International Airport plans to build a new central rental car facility funded by an increased customer facility charge, which will help create additional parking spaces.
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board approved raising the fee to $9 per day starting November 1, up from $6 in 2023. This fee increase will support the construction of a consolidated rental car facility (ConRAC), freeing up space currently used for rental cars in terminal parking garages. Similar facilities have been successful in other airports, such as Tampa International, which saw a significant increase in parking capacity following the completion of its ConRAC in 2018.
The project, which includes expanding the automated people mover, upgrading roads, and reconfiguring rental car spaces, is projected to cost $2.18 billion, with $1.44 billion allocated for the facility itself. The ConRAC is expected to provide up to 5,000 additional parking spaces by 2032, depending on funding and construction progress.
The increased fee is anticipated to generate about $32.8 million in fiscal 2025. In the meantime, the airport has added over 2,000 new parking spaces through various initiatives and is exploring further expansions, including a parking reservation app system and enhanced bus services for tourists.
