In a surprise move, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, has resigned from his position, effective immediately.
Abubakar submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu on August 24.
The reasons behind Abubakar’s sudden departure are still unclear, sparking speculation about the circumstances surrounding his exit.
Abubakar, who was appointed NIA DG by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2018, has been at the helm of the agency for over five years.
His resignation comes at a time when the agency is critical in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
