The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has lauded Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, for his developmental strides, particularly in innovation and digital economy.
During a working visit to the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti, Dr William Tsuma, UNDP’s Country Senior Innovation Adviser, expressed interest in promoting Ekiti’s innovation across Nigeria. He praised the state’s efforts in agriculture, education, arts, and digital initiatives, highlighting the recent launch of the Innovation Hub in Ado-Ekiti.
Dr Tsuma emphasised the importance of leveraging Ekiti’s expertise and innovation to benefit other states and regions. He also commended Governor Oyebanji for fostering an environment that empowers the youth through practical experiences in the public sector, contributing to the nurturing of a new generation of well-equipped young professionals.
Governor Oyebanji in his remarks, stressed the significance of the Ekiti Knowledge Zone in driving innovation and technology, focusing on increasing employability and addressing curriculum deficiencies. He revealed plans to replicate the Innovation Hub across all 16 local government areas, aiming to create economic opportunities and make Ekiti an economic hub in Nigeria.
The meeting also featured remarks from Ekiti State Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Digital Economy, Mr Seun Fakuade, who reiterated the state’s commitment to partnering with UNDP to drive development through innovation, with youth at the centre of this vision.
