Mia Le Roux, the newly crowned Miss South Africa, has voiced support for her former pageant contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, who faced controversy over her citizenship claims and Nigerian heritage. Adetshina withdrew from the competition amid these debates and trolling. Born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, and now a naturalized South African, Adetshina had advanced to the Top 30 before her departure.
In an interview with South Africa’s Newzroom Afrika, Le Roux, who made history as the first deaf Miss South Africa, expressed that Adetshina did not deserve the hostility she received. Le Roux described Adetshina as “phenomenal, powerful, and beautiful” and called for greater unity and support rather than division.
Following Le Roux’s win, Adetshina congratulated her on Instagram, praising her as a representative for all and wishing her well. Adetshina has since been invited to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, an invitation she has accepted, as announced by Silverbird CEO Ben Murray on X. Adetshina expressed gratitude for the support from Nigerians during the Miss SA controversy.
