Following the recent release of some Americans in a multi-country prisoner swap, the families of the eight Americans still detained in Russia are continuing to draw attention to their loved ones’ situations.
Eleonora Srebroski, the former mother-in-law of Ksenia Karelina, an American ballerina imprisoned in Russia, expressed concern over the treatment Karelina has received.
Karelina, a 32-year-old Los Angeles resident, was arrested in January after a donation to a Ukrainian humanitarian aid charity was discovered in her Venmo account. She faces a treason trial next week.
Srebroski described Karelina as a kind and selfless individual, noting that while Karelina is now able to communicate with her family, she remains deeply worried about the impact of her situation on them. Despite her circumstances, Karelina remains hopeful and focused on staying positive.
