Torrential rains in Pakistan this week have resulted in at least 30 deaths, with Lahore experiencing its highest rainfall in over 40 years.
The monsoon season has triggered widespread flooding and landslides across South Asia, including neighboring India, where at least 195 people have died and nearly 200 are missing.
In Pakistan, intense rains have caused building collapses and increased electrocution risks. Lahore’s rainfall has broken a 44-year record, and flash floods are anticipated in the south.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 24 people, including 12 children, have died from recent floods.
Pakistan, a country highly vulnerable to extreme weather and climate change, is still recovering from the devastating floods of 2022, which killed over 1,700 people and displaced millions.
