The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed that no vandalism has occurred at Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) amid ongoing protests.
FCT Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu announced this following an inspection of key sites in Abuja, including railway stations at Wupa, Kukwaba 1 and 2, Bassanjiwa, Gwagwa, and Idu, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in Wuse, FCT Water Board in Asokoro, and the Abuja Central Mosque.
Dr. Odumosu commended protesters for not disrupting railway operations on the first day of demonstrations, though he noted that the second day was ongoing. He stressed the importance of protecting CNAI, stating that their destruction would set the nation back and would not be tolerated by the NSCDC.
While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, Dr. Odumosu warned against damaging government properties and installations. He expressed concern over reports of attacks on motorists in Lugbe and the burning of private vehicles in Nyanya, urging the public to seek dialogue to resolve grievances.
Engr. Joseph Akinteye, Director of Transport for the FCT Administration (FCTA), praised NSCDC personnel for their vigilance in protecting the railway stations, noting the absence of recent vandalism as a sign of their commitment. The NSCDC remains dedicated to safeguarding national assets and ensuring public safety during the protests.
