In a significant move to address the concerns of university students in Ondo State, Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu, Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs to the Governor of Ondo State, hosted the National Association of University Students (NAUS) CMS ONDO AXIS in his office today. The meeting was centered on addressing the pressing challenges and needs of the association, which represents students from the five universities within the state.
The delegation, led by Comrade Akerele Greatness, included notable members such as Comrade Alade Abayomi (Deputy Speaker, NAUS National Body), Comrade Agbelusi Samuel (General Secretary), Comrade Garba Awral (Director of Special Duties), Comrade Akinmuyiwa Benjamin (Director of Welfare), Comrade Adegbola Stephen (Director of Travels), and Comrade Adeojo Joshua (SSA to NAUS National DSP).
Key issues discussed during the meeting included the NELFUND initiative, which provides financial assistance to students at risk of dropping out. The association expressed gratitude for the SSA’s efforts in ensuring that Ondo State students benefit from NELFUND and pledged to work with university authorities to expedite the upload of student lists to the NELFUND portal.
The delegation also commended the SSA for his inclusive governance and the opportunity for collaboration with student bodies, urging for even greater inclusivity in government affairs.
Concerns about campus security were raised, with the association requesting the establishment of security checkpoints near university campuses to ensure timely access to security services. They acknowledged the SSA’s proactive response to the recent security issues at Adekunle Ajasin University, which had led to the unfortunate death of a student.
Additionally, the provision of buses for the association to facilitate easier mobility for students across campuses was highlighted as a priority.
In response, the SSA expressed his commitment to seeking collaborative measures with NAUS and assured the delegation that their demands would be addressed. He called for continued unity and collaboration among student bodies to achieve common goals.
