Former US President Donald Trump warned on Friday, July 26, that Middle Eastern conflicts could escalate into a third World War if he loses the 2024 election. He made these remarks while meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Netanyahu traveled to Florida after meeting President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington, D.C., following his address to Congress.

At Mar-a-Lago, Trump criticized Harris’s stance on Middle East issues and suggested that Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza could widen if she succeeds Biden, who recently announced he would not seek re-election. Trump claimed, “If we win, it will be very simple and resolved quickly. If not, you’re looking at major wars in the Middle East and possibly a third World War. We’re closer to it now than at any time since World War II due to incompetent leadership.”

Trump’s comments come amid reports of diplomatic tensions between Harris and Netanyahu. After their meeting, Harris emphasized Israel’s right to self-defense but also expressed concern over civilian casualties in Gaza, calling for an end to the war and the release of hostages. Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s goal to eliminate Hamas and hoped for a cease-fire deal. This Mar-a-Lago meeting marked Netanyahu’s first face-to-face interaction with Trump since 2020, following a strained relationship after Netanyahu congratulated Biden on his electoral victory.
