A petition with over 1,400 signatures is calling for the removal of 23-year-old Chidimma Adetshina from the Miss South Africa pageant due to her Nigerian heritage. Adetshina, born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and a South African mother of Mozambican descent, is one of the top 13 contestants vying for the Miss SA 2024 title. The petition gained momentum after Adetshina removed the Nigerian and Mozambican flags from her TikTok profile.
Controversy also surrounds her status as a divorced mother, even though Miss SA’s updated rules now permit divorced and married women to compete. Despite the backlash, the Miss South Africa organization has confirmed that Adetshina meets all eligibility criteria, as she holds a valid South African ID and has a South African mother.
“All documentation provided by entrants is screened and vetted. Chidimma is a South African citizen and has met all requirements to participate in the competition,” the organization stated. This confirmation underscores her eligibility, despite the ongoing controversy and the petition calling for her removal from the pageant due to her heritage and personal background.
