The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has addressed the recent fuel supply challenges in Lagos and Abuja, attributing the shortage to delays in cargo discharge by several vessels. As fuel scarcity worsens, especially in Lagos, residents have been facing long queues at major filling stations, resulting in significant traffic congestion.
Long lines were seen at NNPC stations along Ogunnusi Road, even though these stations were not dispensing fuel. Similar situations were reported on Oba Agunji Road near Agege and at a Mobil station in Ijaiye. At the NNPC station in Alapere, a queue stretching nearly a kilometer was observed, among other locations. Meanwhile, a few independent stations that were dispensing fuel were selling it at a high price of N800 per litre.
Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer for NNPC Ltd., commented on the situation, stating, “The NNPC Ltd. wishes to clarify that the tight fuel supply and distribution issues in parts of Lagos and the FCT are due to delays in the discharge operations of a few vessels.”
Soneye assured the public that NNPC is actively working with stakeholders to resolve the issue and restore normal fuel distribution operations.
