In response to planned nationwide protests against bad governance, the Federal Government has ordered increased security at all national borders to prevent foreign elements from participating. Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), directed all Zonal Heads, State Command Comptrollers, and Divisional Immigration Officers (DIOS) to enhance surveillance and secure the nation’s gateways.
DCI Kenneth Udo, the Service Spokesman, emphasized the need for heightened vigilance. “The Comptroller General stressed the importance of safeguarding the nation’s gateways, urging officers, especially Heads of Border Commands, to prevent foreign elements from destabilizing the country during the protests,” the statement read.
All leave applications for immigration officers have been temporarily suspended as part of these measures. Nandap called on officers to demonstrate professionalism and patriotism, reminding them that “Nigeria is the only country we have as our own.”
The CGIS assured the public of the service’s commitment to securing the nation’s borders and contributing to national security during this period of heightened tension.
