Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has challenged Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over his statement that protests would not be allowed in Abuja on August 1. Sowore, via his X account on Friday, announced that the proposed nationwide protests would commence in Abuja, stating, “It is starting from and in Abuja!”
Wike had declared that August 1 would be reserved for the chairmen of the six Area Councils of the FCT to issue certificates of recognition to their traditional rulers. This announcement was made during a press briefing following the FCT Security Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
Nigerians are gearing up for a nationwide protest scheduled from August 1 to August 10, 2024. The protest, tagged #EndBadGovernance, aims to address widespread issues of hunger and inflation in the country. Organizers have expressed their frustration with the current economic conditions, prompting a call to action for citizens to join the movement.
