Fuel scarcity has returned to Zamfara State, leading to long queues at the NNPC mega station in Gusau, the state capital. Motorists have been seen waiting for hours to purchase fuel, with many vehicles lined up and struggling to get their fill.
Ibrahim Ahmad, a commercial bus driver, shared his frustration, stating that he had been waiting at the station for over three hours without success due to the excessively long queues. He expressed concern about the impact of the delays on his ability to support his family, questioning how drivers could effectively manage their businesses amid such economic hardship.
Reports indicate that fuel was being sold at N628 per liter at the mega station. Additionally, black marketers were observed carrying jerricans filled with fuel, despite the state’s ban on such purchases. Several filling stations in Gusau were found closed, with only a few remaining open and charging higher prices.
Some interviewed individuals accused petroleum marketers of hoarding fuel for personal gain, selling primarily to black marketers while claiming to be out of stock. Grace, a saleswoman at one station, mentioned that they had been instructed to stop selling fuel to customers but were unaware of the reason behind the directive.
