and turned LG chairmen to Puppets during your time as a Gov
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ekiti State has refuted former Governor Ayodele Fayose’s claim that most council workers don’t come to work but only collect salaries. NULGE President Comrade Oluseyi Olatunde stated that Fayose’s assertion is a fallacy and a clear display of ignorance about the local government system. He highlighted the proactive nature of council workers in Ekiti State, evident in the developmental progress made by all councils and Local Council Development Areas.
He noted that the leadership of NULGE is not surprised at the negative outbursts of Fayose who, during his time as Governor of the State ran the council like a private business and reduced the office of the council Chairmen to that of a puppet and servants adding that he impoverished the local government workers through his obnoxious policies of using three federal allocations to pay just a month salary which resulted to accumulation of nine months salaries arrears despite huge bailout funds, Paris refund received from the federal government. “Fayose never used the funds to bail Local Government workers out of the huge financial mess he plunged them into”.
The union leader criticized Fayose’s past governance, alleging that he ran the council like a private business, reduced council chairmen to puppets, and impoverished local government workers by accumulating salary arrears despite receiving federal bailout funds.
NULGE expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the judiciary, and Nigerians who supported Local Government Autonomy, which they believe is essential for grassroots development. They urged Fayose to retract his statement and apologize to council workers for discrediting and blackmailing them.
In essence, the union defended the hard work and dedication of council workers and condemned Fayose’s negative and misinformed remarks.
