The Kanuri are a well-known ethnic group located in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Sudan, and Libya. The largest population of Kanuris resides in the northeastern part of Nigeria.
Their primary province and ancestral homeland is the Bornu Emirate, which has a rich history stretching back centuries.
The Kanuri speak the Kanuri language, which has different dialects depending on the region (e.g., Manga, Tumari, Bilma, and Yerwa dialects). They have various subgroups identified by different names in some regions.
