– The late maturity varieties
We all know how important seed selection is. The seed variety we plant is one of the important factors that determine our yield.
Due to the effect of climatic changes and unpredictable rain fall patterns unlike before, most farmers tend to choose early maturity over medium and late maturity maize seed varieties.
Early maturity maize varieties are maize that mature very early, they mature between 70 to 85 days. They are mostly with high tolerance to drought. Most hybrid seeds that mature early will have it written on the seed pack. For instance SC 419, SC 510, SC 651 are early maturity
Medium maturity maize varieties are maize that mature a bit early but not early like the early maturity varieties.
Most are also in some cases possessing some level of tolerance to drought. Their maturity days are usually between 90 to 110days.
SC 612, SC 649, DK 777, DK 920 are example of medium maturity maize. Most of the oba super hybrid seeds are medium maturity.
Most pioneer seeds are medium maturity (this should be the no 1 best maize seed)
