The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, stated that he does not know Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking on the second day of the Ministerial Sectoral Updates, a media event marking the first year of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Fagbemi emphasized that Kanu’s case is different from that of Omoyele Sowore.
When questioned about why Sowore and Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho were released while Kanu remains in the custody of the Department of State Services, Fagbemi responded, “Nnamdi Kanu and Sowore’s cases are not the same. If I see Sowore, I don’t know him, if I see Nnamdi Kanu, I don’t know him.”
He clarified that Kanu is being held under the rule of law and court orders, and he urged patience for the court’s decision, asserting that no one will be detained outside the country’s legal framework.
