Some popular questions surrounding Tunde Onakoya’s Chess marathon for change world record
1. The chess master (Shawn Martinez ) playing consistently with Tunde, will he also break the record?
Answer: Yes, according to Tunde’s manager, Shawn and Tunde are looking to break the record of longest chess game played. Their target is 58 hours. Chess is a two man game, so the record rightfully belongs to both of them.
2. Does Tunde have to win every game?
Answer: Actually, no he doesn’t…he has to play for 58 hours straight, nonstop. But that’s not what Tunde wants, that’s not his target. Tunde’s goal is to play chess for 58 hours without losing a single game.
This is the record he plans to create. He doesn’t just want to play for 58 hours, he wants to make sure he plays without losing a single game.
Now this is not going to be easy because that means, the US chess master, Shawn Martinez will also have to lose or draw consistently for 58 hours against Tunde, and I am sure Shawn won’t want this to happen. He’d want to win one at least.
So this makes the game more interesting for both of them.
3. How can I watch them live?
Answer: It’s currently streaming live on Tunde’s Instagram page, Tunde Onakoya . You can head over there to watch it. If you don’t see it there, there’s a link where you can cIick to watch them live via his social media bio.
4. Why is Tunde doing this?
Answer; His main goal is to raise 1million doIIars which he’d use to help kids in slums like he has always done in the past with his project, Chess in Slums.
So he pleads with everyone watching to at least donate whatever they can to reach this goal.
As at now, the money is at 22k+ dollars.
5. Does he rest at all?
Answer; Yes, in-between each hour, they both get a 5 minute break before they continue playing. They can decide to skip their 5 minute break and accumulate it for as much as possible then rest for the period of time they accumulated. Like when they rested for 30 minutes.
6. What about the other random chess players he’s playing with?
Answer; He’s just playing the game with them while simultaneously playing with Shawn Martinez. Guinness world records won’t count those random games with other players but he’s still doing it regardless and he hasn’t lost there either. He’s unbeaten in both sides currently.
7. Who is Tunde Onakoya?
Answer: The convener and founder of Chess in Slums, a project that aims to use chess to take kids out of slums and create a far better life for them. He is also a Nigerian Chess Master. This rank isn’t easily given to just anybody that plays chess, so this should tell you how good he is in the game.
Special shout out to Nigerian artistes, Davido and Adekunle Gold for showing up and supporting him at Times Square, New York.
