Nineteen students of the Nasarawa State University in Keffi who were injured during a stampede last Friday have been discharged.
While two students died in last Friday’s unfortunate incident, four others are still responding to treatment, according to the state government.
Confirming this to newsmen via a text on Sunday, the state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Margaret Elayo, commiserated with the families of the two students who lost their lives during the recent stampede ahead of the distribution of palliatives to students of the State University on Keffi.
The two students identified as Grace Danladi and Rose Micheal were both indigenes of Nasarawa State from the western zone.
On Saturday, the Commissioner, Saturday visited Mararaba Edege in the Nasarawa local government area and Kubang village in the Panda Development Area of the Karu local government area and consoled their families pending any form of compensation from the government.
She was however silent on whether the state government would compensate the families of the two dead students.
The husband of late Rose Micheal said they have been married for barely a year and he has been devastated by the demise of his wife but takes it as the will of God.
On his part, the district head of Edege, Aminu Enupe expressed appreciation for the concern extended by the government as he called for better management of such processes in the future.
“We appreciate your concern and I know that the Governor has a good heart for the students and for the people of the state otherwise he wouldn’t have gone to this extent of going to students,” he said.
“We give God the glory, whatever must happen, must happen. No matter what you do, what will happen, will happen. And it has happened mad there is nothing we can do about it. We only pray that we learn from whatever has happened.”
