The management of the Adamawa State Agribusiness Support Programme (ADAS-P) led by the acting C.O.O Mr. James Birdling and the Implementation Committee, led by Dr. Ahmed Garba, officially visited the Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University Yola to seek partnership on research and innovation in the field of Climate Smart Agriculture, as well as promotion of agricultural extension services under the ADAS programme.
In his remarks, the acting C.O.O Mr. James Birdling said the collaboration seeks to enhance research and innovation by capitalizing on the university’s capabilities to conduct studies and develop innovative solutions in sustainable agriculture and CSA.
He added that they will collaborate to provide training and capacity-building programs for smallholder farmers, extension workers, and other stakeholders in sustainable agriculture practices, climate resilience, and CSA technologies.
On his part, the chairman Implementation Committee Dr. Ahmed Garba, said the partnership will also facilitate knowledge exchange, fostering collaboration on research projects, sharing best practices, and disseminating findings to relevant stakeholders.
He further explained that they will jointly implement pilot projects to test sustainable agriculture and CSA practices in various agricultural sub-sectors, serving as models for scaling up initiatives in Adamawa State.
Additional initiatives include establishing a model Climate Smart Village to function as a Farmer Field School, supporting the Adamawa State Ministry of Environment in developing a framework for climate-smart agriculture, and facilitating the assessment of demand and supply of climate-smart agriculture markets and gaps in sub-sector value chain products.
ADAS-P has been conducting engagement meetings with various Stakeholders to enable the program to succeed.
