The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria is taking a strong stance on the issues facing its members, particularly regarding the implementation of agreements made with the Federal Government in 2020.
The impending nationwide withdrawal of services scheduled for February 27 underscores the severity of the situation.
The demands put forth by the association are focused on addressing the challenges exacerbated by factors such as subsidy removal, forex deregulation, and the resultant increase in the prices of essential baking materials.
They are calling for immediate action, including the implementation of financial support palliatives promised to bakers post-COVID-19, suspension of taxation on the bakery industry, and liberalization of flour and sugar importation.
Furthermore, the association is advocating for the reduction or elimination of import duties on key baking materials, provision of concessionary forex exchange, reduction of tariffs on imported wheat and sugar, and the development of domestic cultivation and processing of wheat and sugar cane.
In addition to these economic measures, the association is seeking the removal of multiple taxations at all government levels and the establishment of a price control and monitoring committee to ensure fair practices within the industry.
