The last moments of a US tech boss who plunged 15 feet to his death during his company’s anniversary party have been captured on film.
Sanjay Shah, CEO of Illinois based revenue management company Vistex, fell during an appearance on stage after a cable holding up an iron cage he was performing in snapped.
The freak accident took place at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, India on Thursday during a celebration for the Vistex Asia’s Silver jubilee.
Harrowing video shows Shah inside the metal cage along with his colleague Raju Datla.
A voice implores the crowd to put their hands together while fireworks shoot from the stage.
But suddenly the cable snaps and the structure gives way, sending the men tumbling to the ground.
Both men were rushed to the hospital where Shah succumbed to his injuries. Datla remains in a serious condition, the Sun ,reports.
‘Shah and Raju being lowered from the cage onto the dais was a planned event to kickstart the celebrations,’ a company official told The Times of India.
‘Suddenly, one of the two wires attached to the cage snapped. Both plunged more than 15 feet and landed on the concrete dais. This caused multiple injuries,’ cops said.’
A case has since been registered against the event management authorities, police added.
Vistex was founded by Shah in 1999 and today has 20 global offices and more than 2,000 employees. It counts brands including GM, Barilla, and Bayer among its clientele.
Staff had been given accommodation at Ramoji Film City in anticipation of the two day celebration of 25 years in business.
Shah, 56, was originally from Mumbai and moved to the US aged 17. He achieved his MBA degree from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania at the age of 21.
He went on to donate $5 million to established the Vistex Institute for Executive Education at the school in 2017.
Shah was a philanthropist who established the Vistex Foundation which provides funding to non-profits focusing on health, education, and basic needs. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
Datla, the company’s president, has been with Vistex since 2000.
