A small room on the bottom floor of Ahmadu Bello University’s Senate Building at the Samaru Main Campus in Zaria, which housed an electrical Distribution Board (DB), was completely destroyed by fire.
The incident occurred in the evening, according to a statement released on Friday by Auwalu Umar, Director, Public Affairs Directorate, ABU. No casualties were reported.
About 4:15 p.m., the fire broke out, although its origin was not immediately determined. There have been no reported casualties or injuries.
But the fire has destroyed the Distribution Board and a few outdated public speech equipment.
“The catastrophe was averted by the prompt action of the university’s security guards and firefighters. In actuality, the building’s power has subsequently been restored.
“Hundreds of supporters and some management personnel were present at the scene of the incident, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala,” the statement read.
A team has been assembled by university management to investigate the circumstances leading up to the fire.
Professor Bala gave the university’s firefighters and security staff praise for extinguishing the fire.
