Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has made a surprise stopover in Paris, France, at the end of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) last weekend in New York, United States.
The stopover was not on his pre-departure itinerary.
According to reports, President Tinubu travelled to Paris, France, from New York, for undisclosed reasons.
As at the time of this report, the Presidency was not forthcoming about the reason for Tinubu’s stopover in Paris.
Also, even though an earlier statement by the Presidency had indicated that Tinubu would meet with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of UNGA, the meeting did not hold, and no official reasons were given by either side.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President was also joined by other aides in what was meant to be a trimmed down delegation in contrast to previous practice by former Presidents.
Most of the top government officials who accompanied the President to New York have returned to the country.
