Mixed reactions online as Brooke Bruk Jackson, 21-year-old Zimbabwe native becomes the first white woman to win Miss Universe Zimbabwe.
She defeated 11 other finalists to win the much-coveted title and she will be representing Zimbabwe, 98% black nation in the upcoming Miss Universe 2023 pageant, scheduled to happen in November this year in El Salvador.
The decision sparked heated debate online. those who are against the decision said that the young woman won the competition because she is white and that a Black contestant should have been selected to represent the country, where most of the population is Black.
natasjasibanda: “I’m not supporting this at all and I’m not here to argue with any mf black people should learn to love and respect themselves stop sending a white girl to represent Zimbabwe 🇿🇼, We are not white isn’t enough seeing them whites coming from their continent have you ever seen Germany, India Thailand or China sending Black girls to represent them stop being fools…”
Kiihmeelion_imagery: Consistently trying to shove white women down everybodies throats. Then have the audacity to choose a skinny pink woman. Disgusting disgusting disgusting
Mkcjpeg: This is the most disrespectful thing to Zimbabweans! White people contribute nothing to Zimbabwe instead they go take our land and extort Zims, live their lavish lives while Zim people suffer everyday and they contribute nothing to that society or economy! This is so wrong
civil_eng_achitecture_ : White supremacy, yet again even without being asked
anntoinetteangrum: This white thief MUST have her title stripped! It is a spit in the face of BEAUTIFUL BLACK ZIMBABWE WOMEN!!! BOYCOTT! DEMAND HER TITLE BE STRIPPED!!! COLONIAL SLAVE MASTERS CONTINUE THEIR THEFT!
toniaballou: This is some real bill crap!!!! Somebody needs to get fired! She, in no way, shape, fashion, or form, should wear this title. She CANNOT ACCURATELY represent Africa or the true native Zimbabwean people. This is an insult to our culture. PERIOD!!!
slimdagodatl2: Y’all crown a white colonizer for Zimbabwean lol
Others defended Bruk-Jackson’s victory. They argue that her triumph is well-deserved, pointing to her exceptional ability to answer questions and her modeling prowess as reasons for her win.
“Brooke deserved to win; she worked hard for that crown, and her walk was so graceful. Her answer was powerful, short, and precise. Well deserved. Congrats to her,” said one user, according to local news outlet The Zimbabwean.

On Facebook, under posts of the winner’s announcement, others also chimed in to support her.
“She’s absolutely gorgeous. If she’s Zimbabwean-born, then she qualifies. Everything else is rato drama. Let her enjoy her limelight moment. Would you like someone taking away something from you at a funeral in public? Or at your wedding, they repossess your car? Don’t make her opportune moment turn into a chance for you to make it difficult for her to rejoice,” Brian Ngoni Muzabazi commented.
