Chairman of Sudan’s transitional Sovereign Council and General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Saturday headed to Uganda on an official visit, the Sovereign Council said in a statement.
Al-Burhan will hold talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni about ways to enhance bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern, the statement said.
Al-Burhan is accompanied by acting Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq and Director of the General Intelligence Service Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadel, it added.
Battles that began April 15 between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo have killed nearly 7,500 people, according to a conservative estimate from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project.
The armed forces control the skies over Khartoum, while RSF fighters continue to dominate the city’s streets.
The war has uprooted more than five million people, including one million who fled across borders, according to United Nations figures.
