The Presidential Election Petitions Court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, has upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The court ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) made a mistake in declaring Tinubu the winner of the February 25, 2023 election.
The court also dismissed the PDP’s claims that Tinubu was convicted of fraud and that he holds dual citizenship. The court ruled that these claims were not relevant to the election and should be struck out.
“This petition accordingly lacks merit. I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear their cost.” the court ruled
On the issue of Tinubu’s conviction and the issue of his dual citizenship, the Tribunal again held like it earlier did that this issues were incompetent and liable to be struck out and same were indeed struck out.
