Grain prices in Gombe markets have dropped by approximately 15% over the past two weeks due to low patronage and a glut caused by a bumper harvest.
Traders report significant price declines, with a 100kg bag of maize falling from N62,000 to N53,000, beans dropping from N120,000 to N105,000, and wheat plummeting from N110,000 to N86,000.
Economic challenges and reduced purchasing power are cited as key factors for the low demand. Stakeholders are calling on the government to establish aggregation centers to enhance market value and address the surplus.
