The Kano State Police Command has detained a couple accused of attacking a lecturer at the Kano State Polytechnic.
Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa identified the suspects as Khalid Hussain (20), known as Baffa, from Dorayi Quarters, and Khadija Hassan (18), from Charanchi Quarters. Both are in custody at the command’s Anti-Thuggery department.
The incident occurred after the lecturer, Aliyu Hamza Abdullahi, filed a complaint with the police. Khadija allegedly instigated the attack, accusing the lecturer of blocking her transfer to a preferred department due to insufficient grades.
In response, she reportedly contacted her fiancé, who allegedly entered the lecturer’s office armed with a cutlass and struck him on the head.
Auwal Isma’ila Bagwai, the Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, praised the swift intervention of staff and students, which prevented further escalation.
SP Kiyawa confirmed that the suspects would face prosecution and reiterated the importance of safety and order in academic environments. Meanwhile, the injured lecturer is recovering, and investigations are ongoing.
