A chieftain of the Labour Party in ward 5,Akure South Local Government areas of Ondo State, Hon Obele Samuel has called for cancellation of the outcome of the just concluded council election in the local government.
Honorable Obele in a statement released to Newsmen in Akure on Sunday Evening described the outcome of the election as unacceptable one based on the level of oppression embarked upon by the ruling party in the state.
According to him, as a political party we are calling for cancellation of this election in ward five and the entire Akure South local government because several Voters were prevented from voting and those who vote did with fear, as APC chieftains and political thugs disrupted the peaceful process
Saturday 18th January 2025 was the date for the long-awaited local government elections in Ondo State, a day Which was supposed to be an important milestone in ensuring democratic governance at the grassroots level, but to our surprise it was a broad daylight robbery on democracy
The Ondo State Electoral Commission made extensive preparations to guarantee a smooth and transparent election. Efforts included the timely distribution of voting materials, training of election officials, and ensuring proper logistics were in place, but at the end, there was massive oppression on the voters , on the Ad-hoc staff and our party agent.
However, the APC thugs presence at polling units was resourceful in promoting electoral violence and intimidation dustrupting citizens to cast their votes with fear.
This was crucial to maintaining confidence in the election process and the overall integrity of the democratic exercise.
The results of the poll however shows less value for democracy especially at a time the entire Nation are expecting the dividend od Democracy at the passage of local government autonomy bills.
We call on all stakeholders of our great party to stand firm on this rejection call, ODIEC must organize another election in Akure South and this is our submission, Honorable Obele said.
