Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has attributed the current economic hardships in Nigeria to the poor decisions made by citizens during the 2023 elections.
Speaking during the two-day “Recovery Conference 2025” held in Bauchi State on Tuesday and Wednesday, Suleman did not hold back in his criticism.
Addressing journalists at the Government House after a courtesy visit to Governor Bala Mohammed, Suleman blamed Nigerians for their electoral choices which he said have led to the nation’s current challenges, reports Daily Post on Thursday.
“What Nigerians are going through is partly what they deserve. Before the election, we cried out, we screamed, we yelled. The man (President Bola Tinubu) who came into leadership had no manifesto—just a sense of entitlement with his ‘it’s my turn’ mantra,” he stated.
Suleman was referring to Tinubu’s speech in Ogun State before the 2023 election where he told party faithful that it was his turn to be president. He said in Yoruba ‘Emilokan’ which means ‘It is my turn’.
The pastor further lambasted the Tinubu administration for its policies and alleged mismanagement of the oil sector. “The oil sector has been plundered. In the next 10 to 15 years, I don’t think Nigerians will recover from the damage. Now, all we can do is pray,” Suleman lamented.
Suleman urged Nigerians to reflect deeply on their voting decisions ahead of the 2027 elections, cautioning that unless citizens have suffered enough, they may repeat the same mistakes.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who hosted the pastor, echoed similar concerns. While commending Suleman for his spiritual leadership, Mohammed criticised the current administration’s policies, describing them as directionless and potentially disastrous.
“Tinubu’s policies don’t have a clear vision and are taking us to the road to perdition and destruction. That is why when I talk about tax reforms, it is not because I don’t want reform, but because I want reform that will have a national impact. I don’t have anything against the president but respect,” the governor said.
