The Nigerian government has received $52.88 million in recovered assets, known as the Galactica assets, linked to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke.
The assets were returned by the US government, and the announcement was made by Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi during a formal signing ceremony in Abuja. Of the recovered funds, $50 million will support rural electrification projects through the World Bank, while $2.88 million will go to the International Institute of Justice to improve the justice system and counter corruption.
Fagbemi highlighted the return as a milestone in Nigeria-US collaboration against corruption and a testament to President Tinubu’s anti-corruption efforts. The funds are intended to promote development and reinforce the rule of law in Nigeria.
