On December 17, 1903, at 10:35 a.m., the Wright brothers made history with the first successful powered flight of the “Wright Flyer “at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.
Orville Wright piloted the aircraft, lying on the lower wing to control the wing-warping mechanism, while his brother Wilbur ran alongside to stabilize the machine. The plane traveled 120 feet (36.6 meters) in just 12 seconds, marking the first sustained and controlled heavier-than-air, powered flight.
Just 66 years later, in 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to ever set foot on the Moon. The crew traveled 240,000 miles from the Earth to the moon in 76 hours.
