Rabiu Kwankwaso opens up about alleged discussions on power-sharing with Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, hinting at the future of Nigeria’s politics.
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State and the presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, has denied allegations of a power-sharing arrangement with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
In a BBC Hausa interview, he characterized these rumors as unfounded and malicious, attributing their origin to Atiku’s camp, which he claims has been engaging with religious leaders and regional figures to propagate this narrative.
Kwankwaso reaffirmed his dedication to the NNPP’s objectives, labeling the rumors as distractions intended to mislead the public and create political turmoil.
He expressed his frustration over respected elders disseminating falsehoods about non-existent agreements regarding a rotational leadership plan among the three candidates.
Furthermore, he reflected on his departure from the PDP, describing it as a liberating experience from the “humiliation” faced by him and his supporters, and criticized recent efforts to sever ties between him and the current Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, as divisive tactics aimed at undermining the Kwankwasiyya movement, which he insists transcends mere political affiliation.
