The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called for intensified efforts by troops of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army to tackle oil theft and safeguard the country’s oil production.
During a working visit to the division in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, the COAS expressed dissatisfaction with the current crude oil output, describing it as insufficient for Nigeria’s economic growth. He urged the troops to strengthen their resolve in creating a secure environment for oil exploration and production.
Lieutenant General Oluyede emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and warned against any form of collusion with criminal elements or economic saboteurs. He stated, “Any personnel found engaging in unlawful acts will face severe consequences in line with military and national laws.”
The COAS also reassured the troops of his commitment to improving their welfare and providing the resources needed to enhance their operational effectiveness. He urged them to uphold professionalism, reminding them of their pivotal role in stabilizing the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.
This directive underscores the government’s focus on curbing oil theft, a major threat to Nigeria’s economy, and securing the country’s oil resources.
