Loletha Hale, a homeowner in Georgia, was arrested while attempting to remove an alleged squatter from her property.
Hale appeared on “Morning in America” to explain her arrest after she called police to remove a woman from her Livingston, Georgia, home. “I just can’t believe she had the audacity to break the law and re-enter my home,” Hale said.
She expressed frustration with local authorities and courts, struggling to understand why she was arrested and spent a night in jail on charges of criminal trespassing and a misdemeanor count of terroristic threats. “Your guess is as good as mine,” Hale remarked, baffled by the situation.
“I never imagined that I, or any homeowner, would be arrested over a squatter situation. There’s just no logical explanation. I can’t explain it,” she added.
According to WSB-TV, the woman in question, Sakemeyia Johnson, had allegedly been squatting in Hale’s home. However, Clayton County Magistrate Court ruled she wasn’t considered a squatter due to her connection to the partner of a formerly evicted tenant.
Though a judge later ruled in Hale’s favor, she told NewsNation that she is still unable to return to her home until a writ is issued, leaving her uncertain about when she will regain access. “I have no clue when I will be able to get back into my home,” Hale said.
She also mentioned that she had spoken with the court, which informed her that an evidentiary hearing would be scheduled for Johnson’s appeal. However, Hale questioned the necessity of the hearing, given that Johnson has not met the statutory requirements for an appeal and has yet to receive a notice of a hearing date.
