Bori, the Traditional Headquarters of Ogoni, and the Political Headquarters of Rivers South-East Senatorial District stood still, as the New Rivers Vision Consolidation Campaign trail landed in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Saturday, 21 January 2023.Addressing the mammoth crowd at State School 1, Bori, the venue for the state-level campaign rally, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the 2023 general elections, Sir Siminalayi Fubara said PDP government in the state has done tremendously well in Khana. He promised to build on the gains recorded in education, security, and other critical sectors to bring more development to not just Khana but the entire Ogoni.
“My dear Khana people, we are here to ask for your votes because we have performed very well in this local government area. Governor Wike has, among other things, given you a super highway linking three local government areas of Tai, Gokana, and Khana. I believe this counts for something worth celebrating.
“We are not here to tell you to support us because it is our own turn, it is not a business of turn, it is a business of performance and competence. Our leader has performed very well and we will be taking it up from where he will stop.
“We are going to touch the remaining places yet to be touched. He constructed several schools here, we are going to construct even more. We are going to invest massively in security in Khana Local Government Area to usher in more development into the LGA,” the guber candidate added.
In his remarks, Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike thanked the people of Khana Local Government Area for the massive turnout. He announced that the contract for the construction of Bori internal roads has been awarded.
“I thank the people of Khana for this mammoth and thunderous crowd. Ordinarily we wouldn’t have come to Khana to campaign because we have done very well here, but we just decided to fulfill all righteousness.
“I promised that I will dualiaze Saakpenwa to Bori, I did it. When I was commissioning the road, I promised that I will take it from Bori to Kono as the 2nd phase, I also did it. During the commissioning of the 2nd phase of the road, I promised you that I will do Bori internal roads, as I speak to you, we just awarded the contract yesterday,” the Governor added.
Governor Wike berated the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu over the purported suspension of some members of the party in some states. The governor described it as tyranny and vowed that he will not hesitate to challenge any illegal action of Ayu should he met out such to any member of the party in Rivers State.
“Iyorchia Ayu and his team are suspending people illegally, I want him to know that the battle line has been drawn. We will not fail to challenge it in court if they bring such illegality to Rivers State or to any of my friends.
“We are above that level that anyone can intimidate or threaten us. We are waiting for them, if they are not careful, they are going to cause more damage to themselves as long as this election is concerned,” he said.
Presenting flags to the two house of assembly candidates in Khana, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State Chapter, Amb. Desmond Akawor commended Governor Nyesom Wike for championing the inclusion of women in elective positions in the state.Â
“Your Excellency you have given the female gender a sense of belonging. You do not just talk, you work the talk. No governor in Nigeria has included women in governance like you have done,” he said.Â
The Director-General of the New Rivers Vision Consolidation Campaign Council, Bro Felix Obuah expressed confidence that, PDP will win convincingly in the governorship, national assembly, and state assembly elections in Khana Local Government Area.Â
In his goodwill speech, the member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber, Hon. Dumnamene Dekor said Khana people will vote massively for Sir Siminalayi Fubara because Governor Wike has done well in the LGA.
“We have 359 units in Khana, and close to 200,000 votes. We are going to give maximum votes to Sim Fubara because you have done well for the people of Ogoni, particularly Khana people,” he added.
Senator Barry Mpigi, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District said the crowd is made up of real people of Khana with PVCs, and not like the people from neighbouring states that APC paid N200 for their rally in Etche.
“The people here are Khana people with PVCs, they are not like the people that were paid N200 by APC and taken to Etche. Governor Wike’s legacies are Sim Fubara’s blueprints, this is why we are campaigning with the slogan Continuity and Consolidation,” he stated.
