Prominent human rights activist Dele Farotimi denied bail by court amidst ongoing legal proceedings. Get the full story.
A magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti has refused to grant bail to human rights activist Dele Farotimi, who is charged with alleged defamation against Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun deferred the decision on Farotimi’s bail application until December 20, following arguments from police counsel Samson Osobu, who asserted that the application was incomplete and improperly submitted.
The case has garnered considerable public interest due to Farotimi’s status as a prominent human rights advocate, with the allegations against him igniting discussions regarding free speech and the boundaries of public criticism.
The postponement of the bail ruling means Farotimi will remain in custody as both legal teams prepare for the upcoming court session.
