Popular Twitter influencer Daniel Regha, known for his controversial ratings online, has reviewed singer Davido’s latest melodious song, dubbed ‘Funds’.
The nostalgia track ‘Funds’, off Davido’s upcoming album ‘5ive’, was collaboratively crafted with the exceptional rapper ODUMODUBLVCK and multi-talented singer-songwriter Chike.
The track begins with a nostalgic vibe, featuring Brenda Fassie’s classic “Vulindlela” softly playing in the background. Odumodublvck takes the lead with his powerful vocals, followed by Davido’s signature exclamation, “Shekpe!”
Chike’s silky vocals blend seamlessly into the track, delivering a melody that exudes joy and abundance. Lyrically the song radiates confidence and positivity: “Okay girl, make I show you my bank account, I get plenty to go around, so make you dance when you hear the sound”, showcasing the mix of Amapiano with Afrobeat sound.
While fans and music lovers have been jamming ‘Funds’ since its release today, Daniel Regha revealed that the track is a very mid song, scoring it 3/10.
The influencer berated Davido for sampling ‘Vulindlela’ in his song. He also advised Odumodublvck to add more versatility to verse.
He wrote, “Davido shouldn’t have sampled Brenda Fassie’s “Vulindlela” in his new song “Funds”, that’s no way to pay respect to a legend (RIP); Vulindlela holds great importance especially to those who grew up listening to the song, & it is also a cultural reset.”
“That said, Davido did nothing exceptional in his verse, just easy rhymes, & Odumodu needs to start switching it up, he lacks versatility plus his verse was off theme. Chike on the other hand did a good job, not the best of verses, but his was more meaningful. In addition to this, the song needed a better chorus. Hopefully other tracks off the unreleased album (5ive) are worth the wait. The collab is a 3/10 at best. No offense.”
He furthered, “Most songs being hyped by stans, willn’t see the light of day if sang by unpopular upcomers.”
