The Seme Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has identified and handed over officers implicated in a viral video showing the torture of civilians, for disciplinary action.
The Command had earlier announced it was investigating the alleged maltreatment of individuals by some officers.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Hussain Abdullahi, preliminary findings identified two officers: Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo.
“These officers have been arrested and transferred to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation,” the statement noted.
Abdullahi noted that the officers’ actions do not align with the Service’s commitment to professionalism and integrity.
“The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, strongly condemned their unethical conduct and directed their transfer to the NCS Headquarters for a comprehensive investigation and disciplinary action.
“He also called on the complainants to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
“The Service remains committed to ensuring transparency in all its operations. It will not tolerate misconduct within its ranks and will continue to prioritize the public’s interest,” the statement added.
