The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made a major breakthrough in combating vehicle smuggling with the interception of 21 stolen vehicles illegally imported from Canada. The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, revealed this during a press briefing on Tuesday.
According to Adeniyi, the luxury vehicles, valued at several billions of naira, were seized at the Lagos and Rivers ports during routine inspection and intelligence-driven operations. The Comptroller General emphasized that the NCS remains committed to combating smuggling activities, ensuring accountability in Nigeriaโs ports, and upholding international trade laws.
He stated, “This interception is a clear demonstration of the Service’s vigilance and dedication to curbing illegal imports. We will continue to work with international authorities to track and recover stolen items that pass through our borders.”
The Customs boss also reaffirmed the agencyโs commitment to stronger collaboration with Canadian authorities to address the rise in stolen vehicles being exported to Nigeria. He encouraged Nigerians to refrain from purchasing vehicles with unclear histories, as many of these vehicles are flagged as stolen in international records.
This development serves as a warning to smugglers exploiting the country’s trade routes. Adeniyi assured the public that such vigilance will continue in all ports across the country.
