Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R) will lead the newly established Senate DOGE Caucus, an initiative aligned with President-elect Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The group aims to work outside traditional government channels to dismantle bureaucracy, cut excess regulations, reduce wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies. Trump highlighted the importance of this effort in a statement, emphasizing the goal of transforming government operations.
Ernst’s announcement follows Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s plan to chair a similar initiative in the House, the DOGE Subcommittee, under the Oversight and Accountability Committee. This subcommittee will collaborate with the White House’s DOGE commission, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
Musk and Ramaswamy, in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed, outlined their strategy to identify and eliminate unnecessary regulations, which they argue will reduce government spending and workforce size.
They plan to pursue regulatory rescissions, administrative reductions, and cost-saving measures, focusing on executive actions rather than new legislation.
