PDP chieftain Bode George expresses concerns over the state of the party, urging elder statesmen to intervene and restore unity.
Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed concerns that the opposition party is facing challenges due to selfish interests.
At a news conference in Lagos on Thursday, held to mark his 79th birthday, George emphasized that members and leaders of the PDP need to utilize the upcoming National Convention as an opportunity to revive the party.
The senior statesman stated that while the party leadership was diligently working to foster a sense of belonging among all members, certain ‘desperados’ were actively attempting to undermine their efforts.
He urged for unity within the PDP, noting that the party’s founders would be turning in their graves due to its decline into a mere shadow of its former self as a result of some members’ selfish interests.
A member of the PDP Board of Trustees expressed disappointment and pity over a situation where some insincere members had already started supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
As a dedicated supporter who lives, thinks, speaks, breathes, and defends the PDP wholeheartedly, I have remained with this party since its inception. Today presents me with an excellent opportunity to discuss our party’s future.
As the senior members of the party get ready to convene in Abuja on November 28 to plan our future direction, I feel compelled to openly state that not everything is fine within our party. In truth, we are straying off course.
This is regrettable, as the crisis within our party has further exacerbated the current socio-economic challenges facing our beloved nation.
I am sounding the alarm today that our party is on the brink of a serious impending crisis if we do not urgently address pending critical issues.
George stated that if the PDP is to liberate Nigerians from the firm hold of APC in 2027, this issue must be a key focus at our NEC meeting in Abuja.
George expressed his belief that the PDP was the sole party capable of saving Nigeria and emphasized that it must be prepared to seize the opportunity to advance the country.
He believes that the party should not permit disloyal individuals to exploit its platform for their personal gain, emphasizing that disloyalty is a very serious offense.
