During a night of tribute held in Abuja to honour the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator Rochas Okorocha made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government. He urged the authorities to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a way to respect the legacy of the late senator.
Okorocha described the gesture as a symbolic act of reconciliation and a tribute to Ubah, who was known for his advocacy for unity and progress in the southeastern region. Speaking at the Nigerian Air Force Conference & Suites, Okorocha emphasized the need for healing and dialogue.
“Releasing Nnamdi Kanu will mark a turning point in addressing the grievances of many Nigerians, especially in the southeast. It will also stand as a tribute to the legacy of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who dedicated his life to the service of his people,” Okorocha stated.
The call comes amid ongoing debates about Kanu’s detention and its impact on regional stability. Some view Okorochaβs statement as a bold step towards fostering peace, while others see it as a political move.
The Federal Government is yet to respond to this appeal.
