In a significant move to bolster regional stability, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, recently led a delegation to Chad to engage in high-level security discussions with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby.
The meeting, as reported by Sahara Reporters, focused on strengthening cooperation between Nigeria and Chad to address persistent security challenges, including terrorism, cross-border crimes, and insurgency in the Lake Chad region. Both nations are key players in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), a coalition formed to combat the Boko Haram insurgency and other security threats in the region.
Ribadu highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships with neighboring countries to ensure peace and stability in West Africa. President Déby, in turn, reiterated Chad’s dedication to working closely with Nigeria and other regional allies to address common security concerns.
This visit underscores Nigeria’s proactive approach to addressing regional security issues, emphasizing collaboration and dialogue as essential tools for achieving lasting peace. As the Lake Chad region continues to face significant threats, such diplomatic efforts are critical in reinforcing unity among regional stakeholders.
