Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Abuja last night for a significant visit aimed at strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Nigeria.
At the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, he received a warm welcome from Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Bianca Odimegwu-Ojukwu, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Following his arrival, Modi expressed his appreciation for the reception on his verified X account, stating his hope that this visit would deepen the friendship between the two nations.
President Bola Tinubu also conveyed his excitement about the visit, emphasizing the importance of their discussions in expanding the strategic partnership and enhancing cooperation in vital sectors.
This marks the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Nigeria in 17 years, with the last visit occurring in 2007 by Dr. Manmohan Singh, which established a strategic partnership.
The agenda for the visit includes high-level discussions at the State House in Abuja, focusing on enhancing cooperation in trade, technology, energy, and education, along with the exchange of signed Memoranda of Understanding to formalize agreements in these areas.
