In a notable announcement, the organizers of Miss Universe 2024 have declared Victoria Kjaer Theilvig from Denmark as the pageant’s winner, following an impressive finale on November 16 in Mexico.
Theilvig triumphed over 124 contestants in the 73rd edition of this esteemed beauty competition, succeeding Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, the 2023 titleholder.
In a remarkable achievement for Nigeria, Chidinma Adetshina, the country’s representative, secured the first runner-up position, making history as the most successful Nigerian contestant in the pageant’s history after previously being crowned Miss Universe Nigeria.
This year’s event emphasized inclusivity, featuring 18 mothers and debut participants from nations including Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Moldova, and Somalia.
The competition commenced with a record 125 entrants, expanding semifinalist slots from 20 to 30. After the swimsuit round, 12 contestants advanced to the evening gown segment, leading to the final five from Nigeria, Denmark, Thailand, Mexico, and Venezuela.
The finalists faced two rounds of challenging questions and a final parade before the judges revealed the winner, with Mexico, Thailand, and Venezuela finishing in third, fourth, and fifth places, respectively.
As Miss Universe 2024, Theilvig will undertake a global tour across 30 countries and receive a year’s supply of cosmetics and jewelry, in addition to hosting a travel show, a first for the pageant.
